Description

Robotics is not only the future, it is also the present. By familiarizing students with programming, sensors, and automation, they hone critical computational thinking skills needed to succeed in both the 21st century’s workforce and in everyday life.

Beyond science and engineering principles, VEX Robotics solutions encourage creativity, teamwork, leadership, passion, and problem-solving among groups. That’s why VEX is committed to advancing robotics education as leaders in STEM, making it easy to implement and being your partner along the way!

Target age: 11-14

Length: 12-16 sessions, 1 hour each

Digital Devices: Tablets or Laptop and VEX IQ set

This course will introduce students to VEX IQ, which is based on plastic, snap-together pieces specifically designed to build highly functional robots. This system doesn’t require any prior knowledge of robotics. Students can quickly make their first robot, and the wide variety of additional parts means they can build anything they imagine as they continue learning.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand robot behaviors and code robots to perform specific tasks
  • Explore different concepts in computer programing and engineering
  • Program robots to change its velocity, configure the smart sensors
  • Decompose problems into smaller subproblems to facilitate the program development process
  • Compare and refine algorithms for the same task and determine which is the most appropriate
  • Use operator blocks to make the robot move a precise distance
  • Test and debug a program to make sure it runs accurately
  • Describe choices made during program development using comments and presentations
